Specialty Chemicals
Reactive extrusion, masterbatch development, and additive compounding at micro scale — validate chemistry before committing to production tonnage.
01 / 05 — OVERVIEW
Specialty chemical development often involves expensive raw materials, hazardous intermediates, or proprietary formulations where waste minimization is critical. The Three-Tec micro-extrusion platform allows chemists to validate reactive extrusion parameters, develop masterbatch concentrates, and compound functional additives with as little as 1 g of material. High torque density across all barrel diameters handles viscous melts and highly filled systems (>60 wt%) without stalling. The closed barrel architecture and optional ATEX-rated configurations support processing of solvent-containing or flammable feedstocks. Every run generates a complete process log for technology transfer to production-scale equipment.
02 / 05 — CHALLENGES
03 / 05 — WORKFLOW
How it comes together.
Define reaction or compounding target with process chemistry team
Select barrel diameter and L/D ratio based on residence-time requirements
Feed via gravimetric ZD 5 FB i6000 for repeatable additive dosing
Process on ZE-series extruder with full torque, pressure, and temperature monitoring
Pelletize or collect extrudate for analytical confirmation and scale-up documentation
04 / 05 — TEST LAB
Run it in our lab first.
Our Piscataway, NJ facility is equipped to run feasibility studies for this application. Ship your material and we’ll process it on validated equipment — onsite observation or video-call available.
